About the "Anchor-Heart"

The tourist symbol of Odesa, the "Anchor-Heart", is a sculpture installed in international tourist-attractive locations. Its purpose is to promote the city as an international tourist, economic, and cultural center, as well as to strengthen external relations.

This art object, first installed in 2012 in the very heart of Odesa, embodies the city's spirit—permeated with the free sea breeze, a passion for travel, and cultural diversity. It was created to support Odesa's positive international image and showcase its tourism and investment potential, serving as a timeless promotional campaign for the city abroad.

Many stories have already been gathered around the sculpture, some of them linked to a legend that says a couple in love should simultaneously grasp the sculpture’s flukes from both sides—this act is believed to seal their love forever. This "ritual" symbolizes improved mutual understanding, a long life together, and the romantic essence of love. The Anchor-Heart symbol holds deep significance and strength in various cultures throughout history.

Amid Russia’s war against Ukraine, these sculptures in various cities have become gathering points for Ukrainians to hold events supporting Ukraine, particularly Odesa. Ukrainian symbols are placed on the Anchor-Heart, candles are lit, and Ukrainian songs are sung near the sculpture, turning it into a site of unity and resilience.
